Conversion of Marmara island dolomite aggregate quarry into block marble quarry Derbent Mining Inc. example

In this master's thesis, the conversion of the dolomitic limestone aggregate quarry operated by Derbent Maden A.Ş in the Saraylar town of Marmara Island into a block marble quarry was investigated based on economic and technical criteria. In the study, it was investigated whether the quarry optimization of the mine is suitable for block marble production. In addition, it is aimed to produce products with higher added value by investigating the usability of the part that cannot be considered as a block, within the scope of recycling of waste, industrial raw materials and artistic works (sculpture). In this way, it is aimed to maximize the contribution of the enterprise to the country's economy with the efficient use of own resources, to provide more income and to be a pioneer in environmental management. At the same time, the importance of scientific feasibility studies (determination of mineralogy-petrographic features, geophysical and georadar studies) and "correct" exploration activities before the mines are put into operation was emphasized. In technical studies, preliminary technological tests were carried out by examining the polishability of the sample taken by general field investigations, core work and splitting in the first stage of the quarry. Subsequently, full technological analyzes of physico-mechanical properties were made in the natural stone laboratory of Kırşehir Ahi Evran University, Kaman Vocational High School, and it was technically designed that the license could be operated as a block marble quarry. Within the scope of the project, it was observed that the profit margin formed by knowing the dolomite block unit sales price over MAPEG precedent prices and calculating the costs is much higher than in the aggregate management, and the aggregate quarry was converted into a block marble quarry.
