Abstract (EN)
The objective of this study is to reveal the socio-economic impacts of urban transformation on individuals in the Marmara region. In accordance with this purpose, a questionnaire was conducted with 375 individuals who live in Esenler, Bağcılar and Güngören districts of Istanbul. As a result of the research, it was found that there was no statistically significant relationship between the participants' occupational status and the question "What do you think should be done to reduce the negative effects of the urban transformation project in the region?". On the other hand, when age groups and educational backgrounds of the participants are taken into consideration, the relation to this question is positive and low level. Furthermore, it was determined that there was a positive and low-level relationship between the participants' occupational status, age groups and educational status and the question "How do you think the urban transformation project will affect the rental prices in the region?". In addition to that, when answers given by the participants to the question "What kind of negative effects do you see for the urban transformation project in your region?" are examined, it is seen that 41.9% of the participants stated that the urban transformation project would lead to "lack of house purchasing for poor people in the region". And , when answers given by the participants to the question "What should be done to mitigate the negative impacts of the urban transformation project in the region?" are examined, it is observed that 31.7% of the participants expressed that "different housing options should be created in the same region for poor people and according to their income" and that would reduce the negative impact of the urban transformation project.
