Abstract (EN)
One of the cheapest and the safest means of transportation in particular circumstances of traffic and shipping, utilization of sea lanes in the level of developed countries, as is expected, with an economical, reasonable and efficient way have been neglected in Turkey, surrounded on three sides by see with a coast length of 8 333 kilometers. The aim of this study is to prepare some suggestions for transferring the land route transportation to shipping systems so as to reach a more effective structure in the transportation sector of the Marmara Region, which possesses a momentous stance in terms of economy, social and cultural life in Turkey. In this research, the current state of the cargo transportation, possible bottlenecks and potentials are set forth. By analyzing the harbors where cargo transportation is fulfilled and the hinterlands to which they appeal in the Marmara Region, the appropriate routes for sea transportation have been developed.
