Engineering geology of the Marmaris dam

Marmaris dam is concrete face rock filled dam. It was started to be built in 1998 and finished in 2006 and it started up order full capacity. It is the 5th dam built with similar system in our country. It?s aim is to supply drinking water to Marmaris and near by towns ( Beldibi, İçmeler, Armutalan) and provide irrigation water for Çamlı Plain which is below the dam and also to control floods.The dam body was placed on serpantinite main rock after removing alluvium . Main rock?s permeabilty was determined by the pressure water tests made on the bore holles drilled in the investigation area, and the necessary injection curtain was made.The most important difference of Marmaris dam from the same kinds of dams is the rock used in the filling is dunite in ultrabasic rock type.
