The role of Marshall aid on the socio-economic structure in mediterranean countries: The example of Turkey

The devastating effect of the Second World War led to the almost disappearance of the European economy and the deterioration of the control mechanisms in the existing social lives of societies. Under these conditions, it was the USA that changed the balances in the world with both its economic and political power. After the Second World War, the conflicts of interest between the victorious states divided the world into two different blocs. This period is accepted as the beginning of the USA and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) rivalry in the world political system and the steps taken by the two countries to become the protectors of the world. Turkey, along with Greece, was included in the Truman Doctrine declared by the USA in 1947, so that Turkey was divided into two poles and the world became clear. However, the USA, which wanted the rapid recovery of Europe, which was badly damaged in the Second World War, soon announced the Marshall Plan. The USA, which announced that it would start economic aid to Europe within the framework of this plan, brought economic development to the fore. This plan, in which Turkey was also included in 1948, resulted in the convergence of the United States and Turkey in economic, political and social fields.
