Martin Luther's remarks on the Turks

The main purpose of this study is to examine Martin Luther's thoughts about Turks and Muslims, their background and effects. Such a study will also reveal to some extent the effects of Martin Luther's words about Turks and Muslims in the historical background of the formation and spread of Islamophobia in Europe. One of the most important reasons that led us to work on this issue is the lack of sufficient number of researches on Martin Luther's views on Turks and Muslims. In this study, the periods in which Martin Luther's thoughts were formed were evaluated and the people and works that contributed to the formation of his thoughts were included in the discussion. In the first part of the study, the question Who is Martin Luther was tried to be answered. Information was given about the environment Luther grew up in, the schools he attended, the education he received and his family. It is aimed to reveal the effects of the environment in which it grows on the structure of thought. In addition, the factors in the beginning of the Protestant reform, the emergence and spread of the Reform movement, the effects of the Reform on the Ottoman Empire and the effect of the Ottoman Empire on the spread of Reformation were discussed. In the second part, the perception of Turkish in Europe is examined, which is the source of Luther's ideas. At the end of the chapter, the Turkish image in Germany, where Luther grew up, was emphasized. The third section is the main subject of the thesis.
