Examining printing errors arising from graphic design in offset print system used in printing sector

Importance of offset printing technique among printing techniques used in print houses was researched. In addition, printing errors arising from mistakes made during design of work that will be printed with this technique were analyzed in this study.Theoretical infrastructure of the research is the chapter where historical development of printing techniques both in Turkey and the world, as well as printing techniques used in printing were explained in detail. Printing techniques were analyzed under seven main titles, namely high, flat, coved, template, digital, lenticular and hexachrome.Developments of printing and graphic design interact each other. Most important reason is that designs are printed at print house after they are prepared. Therefore it is necessary to develop designs suitable to that printing technique. Today, most of the print houses have machines operating with offset printing system. Thus it is required to eliminate undesired details on the design, which may result in errors in offset printing system.Printing managers, print house owners, printing masters and experienced graphic designers were interviewed with regard to the printing errors arising from graphic design in offset printing technique.In the light of the information obtained with this research:1.Printing knowledge is very important for training of graphic designers. Most of the mistakes arise from here.2.In addition to the printing knowledge they receive during education, graphic designers shall also experience the sector and have information about production technologies.3.In-house communication problems at printing enterprises must be eliminated. Graphic designers must be in permanent contact with masters working at the production line.4.Quality control units must be established at printing enterprises, and designs must be approved by officers of that unit by receiving proof prior to printing.5.It must be remembered that there are also some errors pertaining to program.
