The effect of authentic learning activities on students' academic achievement and reasoning skills in secondary school mathematics

The aim of the research is to determine the effect of activities based on authentic learning approach used in secondary school mathematics course on students' academic achievement and reasoning skills. The research covers the achievements of the units of Integers, Fractions and Decimal Fractions in the fall semester of 6th grade of the mathematics course. The research covers the achievements of the units of Integers, Fractions and Decimal Fractions in the 6th grade Fall semester of the mathematics course. The application of the research was carried out in a public school in Selçuklu district of Konya province in the fall semester of the 2022-2023 academic year. The control and experimental groups, to which the thesis study was applied, consisted of 33 and 26 6th grade students, respectively. The research was carried out for nine weeks in the fall semester. Quasi-experimental design, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the study. The data of the research were collected with the "Academic Achievement Test" and "The Reasoning Skill Test". T-test statistics were used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the research, it was seen that the authentic learning activities used in the mathematics course positively affected the academic achievement and reasoning skills of the students.
