Abstract (EN)
This study aims to determine the effects of using educational mathematical stories and humorous cartoons on mathematics teaching to student's academic achievement, attitudes towards mathematics, attitudes towards negative integers and math anxiety. The sample consist of 54 students from 6. class of a state school at Kepez, Antalya in the 2017-2018 academic year. 27 of the sample is the control group and the other 27 is the experimental group. Educational mathematics stories and humorous cartoons are prepared by the researcher and then arranged with expert opinions. In the study, quasiexperimental pre test-post test control grouped design is used. In order to collect quantitative data; Integer Success Test, Number Patterns and Algebraic Expressions Achievement Test, Math Attitude Scale, Negative Integer Attitude Scale and Math Anxiety Scale are used. Integer Success Test and Number Patterns and Algebraic Expressions Achievement Test are prepared from the national exam questions which were done in the past years and the reliability studies are conducted. SPSS is used as the analytical tool and Kolmogorov Smirnov Test, Shapiro-Wilk Test, Leneve Test, t-Test are used for the analysis of quantative data. In addition, student's opinions about applications are tried to be determined with the questions added to the end of the stories and cartoons. According to the results of analysis it was determined that the use of educational mathematics stories and humorous cartoons significantly increased student's academic success and positively affected their attitudes towards negative integers. In addition, it is observed that the students developed positive thoughts about the applications.
