Abstract (EN)
ABSTRACTThe main purpose of this study was to examine whether negative and definitejudments about mathematics, irrational beliefs and gender and age of high school studentspredict informative sources of math-related self-efficacy expectations. In addition, todetermine whether these students MRSEISS differs according to their research area or not wasalso purposed. The theoretical basis was founded on the Self-Efficacy Theory developped out ofBandura?s Social Learning Theory (Bandura, 1977) and Rational Emotional Theory fromoccupational psychlogy (Ellis, 1962). 678 male and 822 female voluntary students from 5different schools of Turkish Ministry of Education in Karşıyaka, Menemen and Çiğli, whichare districts of zmir, participated in this research. 428 of them were 1st grade, 420 of themwere 2nd grade and 652 of them were 3rd grade students. Math-Related Self-EfficacyInformative Source Scale- MRSEISS (Özyürek, 2002), Math Opinion Scale- MOS (Özyürek,2002) Irrational Belief Scale-Adolescent Form- IBS-A (Türküm, 2005) and Personalnformation Form was used in this research. These results were attained in this study. Multi-linear regression analysis technique, one way variance analysis technique were used in thisstudy and to test the results of the variance analysis, Tukey HSD test was used. The scoresthat high school students earned from MHD-PYO and IBS-A-E scales, gender and agevariables accounted 45% of the total variance related to scores of personal performances scalewhich is a subscale of MRSEISS.The scores that high school students scores from MHD-PYOand IBS-A scales, together with gender and age variables accounted 16%of the variancerelated to scores of modeling teachers and peers subscale. The scores that students got fromthe MOS and IBS-A, together with gender and age accounted 31% of the total variancerelated to MRSEISS?s encouragement sub scale .The scores that students got from the MOSand IBS-A, together with gender and age accounted 38% of the total variance related togetting excited subscale. The findings of the study have been discussed and suggestions forfuture search have been presented.
