Özet (EN)

Most mechanical movements are performed by using electrical motors in almost every industrial process. In industry, electrical motors consume a large percentage of the produced electrical energy. The electrical motor control plays an important role in the electrical energy consumption which increases continuously. The electrical motor not only operates at constant speeds, but also operates at variable speeds. Recent advances in technology have supported the evolution of the electrical motor drive systems.Generally, the commercial motor drive systems are designed using two-level inverters. However, this type of the motor drive systems have some disadvantages such as a requirement of a huge dc-link capacitor, no bi-directional power flow, huge input filter requirement to obtain low THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) of the input current, not allowing four-quadrant operation etc. All these disadvantages can be eliminated by using a matrix converter which performs the ac-ac conversion directly. In this thesis, because of some advantages of matrix converter to the inverter, PMSM to the induction motor and sensorless to sensored control, a PMSM sensorless drive fed by a three-phase matrix converter has been designed to demonstrate that a drive system with high performance and efficiency can be constructed by combining the advantages of these systems. Also, the power/volume ratio can be maximized by making a compact design of the matrix converter fed PMSM sensorless drive. The designed motor drive system has a compact structure. In addition, the control of the system has been performed by using a low cost digital controller.
