Abstract (EN)

Electric motors can be seen in every field of human life. As a consequence of rise in their importance, people started to search for the best. The most used motor type in everyday life are rotating induction motors. The reasons for preferring these motors can be lined up as follows: they are simple, cheap, robust, durable, reliable and they need little maintenance. With the technological development, humans? needs change. It has been proved that linear movement is required as much as rotating movement. That is the reason why linear electric motors are produced. The feeding and control of these motors are other necessities. By the rapid development of semiconductor switching devices and microprocessor technology, feeding and controlling methods of electrical motors have been improved. Matrix converters, which are direct ac-ac converters and transmit the required voltage and frequency values to the output in feeding electrical motors has become preferable. Besides, as in dc motors, vector control technique which allows controlling the flux and torque freely has become widely used in motors? control.In this study; the speed control simulation with vector control technique of linear induction motor (LIM) which is fed by a matrix converter is realized by the help of Matlab/Simulink program. Primarily, the magnetic events called end-effects which separate the LIM from its rotating counterpart have been taken into consideration in the simulation of this motor model. Later, simulation of vector controlled linear induction motor fed by the matrix converter has been done by obtaining mathematical equations related to the matrix converter which was used in feeding the linear induction motor and equations of vector control method. Finally torque, speed and current results obtained from the simulation have been interpreted under several operating conditions.Key words: Linear induction motor, End-effects, Vector control, Matrix converter.
