Mavisel Yener's "Full Moon Detectives" novel investigation of the series in terms of root values

Values are a guide for society. For this reason, individuals who have adopted, internalized and turned their values into a way of life are very important for ensuring social order. In 2017, the Ministry of National Education conducted a renewal study on values education. In the study published by the Ministry, ten root values consisting of the concepts of "justice, friendship, honesty, self-control, patience, respect, love, responsibility, patriotism, and benevolence" were added to the curriculum under the title of "root values". The aim of this study is to analyze the six-book Full Moon Detectives series written by Mavisel Yener, who has an important place in Turkish children's literature, in terms of root values. Within the scope of the research: "Full Moon Detectives-1/ On the Trail, Full Moon Detectives-2/ Terrible Letters, Full Moon Detectives-3/ Mummy Shop, Full Moon Detectives-4/ Horrible Chess, Full Moon Detectives-5/ Forest of the Dead, Full Moon Detectives-6/ Bat Races", document analysis method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. After the books were read in detail, their contents were analyzed according to their root values. For each book, a table of root values showing frequency and percentages was prepared. In order to increase the validity of the study under the title of the books, quotations were made from the chapters containing the values identified. As a result of the research, it was found that all ten root values were present in each of the six books. It was found that the root values most frequently covered were respect, responsibility and love, while the root values least frequently covered were patience, patriotism and honesty. Accordingly, it was concluded that the Full Moon Detectives series are materials that are suitable for the child's level, meet the principles of children's literature, and can be used in the values education process.
