Harmony of illustrations and 2007-2008 education year, secondary class 7th grade Turkish coursebook

One of the most important facilities of education activities is coursebook. According to contemporary education comprehension, the course books are not seen just as entirely information sources. Anyway, the coursebooks are designed both for the purpose of giving information and bringing in aesthetic pleasure. For this reason, the pictures which are placed in the coursebooks carry great importance.According to the experts, the pictures should both give information about the text which is going to be read and increase the motivation against the text. These are the factors of the harmony of the text and the picture, text oriented clues in the picture, line, colour etc?This brings up the question ?how a good course book painting should be?.This study is prepared upon document surveying. Firstly, by studying concerned sources, the necessary criterias of the pictures of a Turkish coursebook which administer educational and aeshetic purpose are tried to specify.In the section of findings and interpretations, 71 coursebook paintings placed in 2007- 2008 education year, secondary class 7 th grade Turkish coursebook are studied. In light of the specified criteria, the positive and negative sides are tried to idetify in terms of the harmony of the texts.In the conclusion section, the harmony of the identified pictures with the texts takes place. In the section of suggestions, various offerings are suggested in order to make pictures which are in harmony with the texts , quality and administer educational and aesthetic purpose.The child not only need true but also beauty.
