Museumization in the context of restoration and re-fuctioningof madrasah structures: Case in point II. Beyazit Madrasah

II. Bayezid Madrasah was built between 1505-1506 as the educational structure of the complex, whose banner is Bayezid II Veli Khan, located in Balabanağa neighbourhood in Fatih district of Istanbul province. The main subject of the thesis is the phases of Bayezid II Madrasah until today and the efforts to exhibit it with modern techniques through the restoration works carried out between 2014-2021 within the scope of contemporary museology principles as the Turkish Foundation Calligraphy Arts Museum, which was transformed in 1983. Following the establishment of madrasahs, madrasah education underwent significant development within the Ottoman Empire, serving as the institutions where key state administrators of the era were educated.These buildings are obliged to be preserved as the relics of the civilisation that has survived to the present day. The fact that these buildings are not used as educational buildings today should not cause us to forget their periodical features and architectural shaping. Madrasah buildings are very suitable structures in terms of contemporary exhibition techniques with their unique plan schemes, rooms, porticoed courtyards used as walking areas and open courtyards. With the restoration works, which are the subject of the thesis, first of all, the basic static problems of the madrasah structure are eliminated and strengthened, and finally, every stage of this adventure is explained by reopening the works to the visitors.
