Meta-synthesis of thesis on media literacy; Between 2007-2023

In this study, it was aimed to examine the postgraduate theses on media literacy in Turkey by using the meta-synthesis method and to reveal how there is a trend in media literacy. By determining the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 71 postgraduate theses, 53 master's theses and 18 doctoral dissertations, prepared between 2007 and 2023, which are open to access in the Higher Education Council (YÖK) National Thesis Scanning Center database, were included in the research and analyzed by thematic synthesis method.In accordance with the purpose of the research, each thesis was analyzed in terms of the year of publication, university, research method, sample group, sample size, data collection tools, data analysis methods, results and recommendations. In the synthesis phase, sub-themes were extracted and coded. According to the findings, the majority of the postgraduate theses on media literacy are at the master's level; most of the theses were published in 2013; the university where most of the theses were prepared was Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University; the research method preferred in the theses is mainly quantitative research method; the most preferred research designs are survey design and case study design; the sample group was mostly secondary school students and pre-service teachers, followed by teachers; the sample size was mostly in the range of 1-200; the most commonly used data collection tool was scale; the most commonly used quantitative data analysis method was T-test, and the most commonly used qualitative data analysis method was content analysis.
