The effect of music on pain, pulse, blood pressure and oxygen saturation of patients applied mechanical ventilation

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of music on the pulse, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, saturation and pain of patients who were hospitalized in the intensive care unit and applied mechanical ventilation. The number of patients to be included in the study was determined as 68 by power analysis (34 intervention group-34 control group). Necessary permissions were obtained from the ethics committee, the institution where the study will be conducted, the patients and the relatives of the patients before the research. The data used in the study were collected using questionnaire form, vital findings record form, and Behavioral Pain Scale. The study was performed twice a day, for 60 minutes and for a total of three days, with a special headset for each patient. The Rast makam (instrumental) was listened in the morning and the Hüseyni makam (instrumental) in the evening. As a result of the evaluation of the data, the pulse in the intervention group and blood pressure values did not change on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd day, but decreased during the 30th and 60th minutes during the day compared to the 0th minute. It was found that the patients in the intervention group decreased pain values in the morning, evening and 30th and 60th minutes of the first, second and third days compared to the 0th minute. It was determined that oxygen saturation values did not change in all measurements in both intervention and control groups. According to the results of the study, as the duration of the music increases during the day, it is determined that the pulse, blood pressure and pain levels are positively affected, and longer music should be played during the day.
