Determination of yield, quality properties of selected strawberry genotypes obtained by cross breeding and molecular characterization

With this thesis study, by making use of cross breeding method, it has been tried to combine the superior taste and flavor properties of domestic strawberry cultivars with the foreign cultivars' high yield and fruit firmness. In this context, selections have been made among 4.066 crossbred obtained based on plant, flower and fruit structure and 229 genotypes that have intended properties have been identified. Pomological analyses and phonologic observation were conducted to selected 229 genotypes and their parents. 13 superior genotypes were selected by applying weighted ranked method to the obtained data. In addition to the observations and analyses conducted in the first year, these selected genotypes and their parents were analyzed in a more detailed manner. As a result of the application of weighted rank to the data obtained during 2016-2017 growing season, it has been observed that the crossbreeds numbered '36','61' and '33' have become prominent by getting higher scores than even their parents. It has attracted attention that these selected crossbreed genotypes have similar antioxidant content to their parents and higher ester ratio but lower fruit firmness than their parents. It has been thought that these genotypes can be gene sources for fresh consumption with their higher antioxidant capacity and yield, odor and taste characteristics or they can be cultivars directly for industry. These genotypes are needed to be improved in terms of fruit firmness by introgression with commercial cultivar which has firm fruit or by the assistance of biotechnological means for them to become commercial cultivars.
