Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to determine the functional status of women undergoing breast cancer treatment. The research was descriptive and conducted between February 2019-May 2019 in Istanbul Oncology Hospital Breast Diseases Unit, radiotherapy and chemotherapy units. The sample of the study consisted of 102 breast cancer patients aged 18-75 years who were diagnosed and treated. Written consent was obtained from Koç University Ethics Committee, relevant institution and patients. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews with the patient descriptive questionnaire and Functional Status Scale (Cancer), which was prepared by the researcher. The suitability of the data for normal distribution was examined by Shapiro Wilks test. Kruskall Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests were used in the analysis of data and descriptive statistics were given as median (Min-Max). The relationships between the variables were examined by Spearman rank correlation coefficient. Among the most common surgical applications; With 43.9%, breast conserving surgery takes the first place. The median total score of the participants was 116 (Min 60, Max: 153). When the subscales of the scale were examined, physical function (Med: 45), psychological, general well-being, social and gastrointestinal function followed the highest score. Functional status of the patients is based on their sociodemographic characteristics (age, marital status, educational status, occupation, social security, economic status perception, with whom they live at home, care obligation, being ill in the family, being assisted in care), disease characteristics (duration of diagnosis, metastasis status, The presence of disease other than cancer, recurrence status) and treatment characteristics (treatment type, the number of cure, last treatment time, the status of surgery) were affected. During breast cancer treatment, it is recommended to evaluate the patient's functions and to provide care according to their functional status and to provide training for patients to improve their functions.
