Abstract (EN)
The fact that the conventional methods used in cancer treatment have a systemic effect that cause the side effects of cancerous cells as well as healthy cells have led to an increasing number of studies on drug delivery systems. Insolubility, high toxicity, and low stability of chemotherapeutic agents limit the effectiveness of the treatment. The development of polymeric drug delivery systems enables targeting the anticancer drug to the tumor site and reduces side effects. By using dual drug delivery systems in cancer treatment, the effectiveness of the treatment is increased by combining anticancer agents that have synergetic effect. Surgical treatment, radiotherapy, hormone therapy and chemotherapy are used as treatment methods in breast cancer, which is the second most common type of cancer after lung cancer. It is known that the combined use of Gemcitabine, an alkylating agent used in cancer treatment as a chemotherapeutic agent, and Cisplatin, a platinum-derived anticancer drug, increases the cytotoxic effect on breast cancer. In this study, Gemcitabine and Cisplatin loaded nanoparticles were synthesized and the cytotoxic effects of nanoparticles on MDA-MB-231 breast cancer and CCD-1079Sk healthy fibroblast cell line were investigated. When we look at the literature, studies on the development of a drug delivery system targeting breast cancer by using a combination of Cisplatin and Gemcitabine anticancer drugs are limited. The research is important in terms of increasing the effectiveness in the treatment of breast cancer, which is the most common type of cancer in women, as it aims to reduce side effects with the use of low doses and to develop a polymeric dual drug delivery system targeted at breast cancer. Adding a new polymeric dual drug delivery system to the literature also makes the study important.
