An analysis of the relationship between urotensin 2 and clinicopathological parameters of breast cancer

Abstract (EN)

Urotensin 2 is a vasoactive polipeptid. It is known that some vasoactive polypeptides are produced and secreted by tumor cells, and act as a paracrine growth stimulant. The aim of the study was to examine the likely association of urotensin 2 and its receptor?s messenger RNA expression on breast cancer.In this study, we enrolled 59 women with breast cancer. Median age was 48. The relationships between urotensin-2 and urotensin-2 receptor mRNA expressions -that were derived from fresh breast cancer tissues and adjacent normal breast tissues- and clinical and pathological parameters were assessed.In our study,we found mRNA expressions of urotensin 2 and it?s receptor in 55 of 59 breast cancer tissues and in 55 of 59 normal breast tissues. We found a positive significant correlation between urotensin 2 and its receptor (r=0,632, p=0,001), and found a negative, however, a non-significant correlation between urotensin 2 and age (p=0.38, r=-0.281). Urotensin 2 levels were higher in premenaupausal group than in post-menaupausal group (p<0.05). Average urotensin 2 receptor expression were higher in pre-menaupausal group (p<0.05) than postmenaupausal group, and its expression was also higher in no extra-nodal invasion group than extranodal invasion group (p=0.001). Urotensin 2 levels were higher in the group of no lymhatic invasion than lymhatic invasion group (p=0.048).This study is the first one in the English medical litature so far, in terms of determining the urotensin 2 and its receptor mRNA expressions on breast cancer tissues. Consequently, urotensin 2 seems to have relations with menaupausal status, extranodal and lymphatic invasion.
