Abstract (EN)
Cancer development and progression is a very complex process. Many biological markers such as oncogenes, tumor suppressor genes, cell cycle regulators and DNA repair genes that play a role in invasion and metastasis at the onset of cancer are used to predict prognosis and response in cancer patients. Breast cancer is an important public health problem, especially for women. Despite the development of diagnosis and treatment methods, the number of new cases isn't decreasing and the early diagnosis and treatment of this disease gain importance because of the high rates of death. A-Kinase Anchoring Protein 12 (AKAP12) regulates gene expression in cell cycle and apoptosis. B- cell Lymphoma 2 (BCL2) family proteins and inhibitors of apoptosis proteins are the major regulators of apoptotic processing. Extracellular High mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) has multiple pro-tumor roles in tumor development, such as induction of angiogenesis, apoptosis avoidance, induction of antitumor immunity, inflammation, tissue invasion and promoting metastasis. In our study, we aimed to determine whether AKAP12, BCL2 and HMGB1 proteins, which play an important role in carcinogenesis process, can be used as a marker of breast cancer, sensitivity, and the relationship between these proteins. A total of 82 participants, of whom 60 Patients with breast invasive ductal carcinoma diagnosed histopathologically between 2014 and 2017 in the Medicalpark Gaziantep Hospital Medical Oncology Clinic, and 22 healthy controls, were included in the study. Serum samples from the study group were examined for AKAP12, BCL2 and HMGB1 levels using the Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) method. When the patient and control groups were compared, the levels of AKAP12, BCL2, and HMGB1 in the patient group were statistically significantly higher (p = 0.009), (p <0.001) and (p <0.001), respectively. Correlation of these markers was also shown. According to our results, the markers that we measured can be used to follow the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.
