Abstract (EN)
In this study, we have determined the serum, P-carotene, cholosterol, trigliserid levels of 26 breast cancer patients and 26 healthy individuals. The effects of age, menapausal situation quatelet index (kg/m ), metastase, cancer types and spread of he disease on serum P-carotene level have been statistically investigated. The average serum P-carotene levels were found to be 51.17±3.77 |ig/dl and 60.36±2.61 jug/dl for breast cancered patients and control group respectively. When the p-carotene levels of patient and control groups ae compared statistically, it's found that the P-carotene level of the patient group is considerably less than that of control group (p < 0.05). Considering the age factor, it's found that the P-carotene levels for below 50 yeas of age group and above 50 years of age group were statistically different in the case of both patient and control groups. When patient and control grups are considered with respect to quatelet index (as above 35 and below 35), it's found that the P-carotene level of the below 25 quatelet group was less than above 25 quatelet group for both patient and control groups; but this difference was not meaningful from a statistical point of view. According to the investigation on menapausal situation of patient and control groups, there wasn't a meaningful statistical difference in the premenapausal and postmenapausal groups. However, there was a difference between postmenapausal patient and control groups (p < 0.05).-101- Whcn we consider the patient group with respect to presence and absence of metastase, we couldn't find any statistical difference in the (3-carotene level of the patient group in he absence o presence of metastase. We also studied the ^-carotene level with respect to the breast cancer types, we couldn't find a statistically meaningful difference among the infilitrative, invasiveductal and undetermined types of breast cancer. We also verified that the |3-carotene level of the patient group was independent of the spread of the cancer and there wasn't statistically meainingful difference between the (3-carotene levels of already proceeding patients and resimmisoned patients. Finally, we considered the cholesterol and trigliserid levels, the cholesterol (226.95±9.11 mg/dl) and trigliserid (173.03+0.27) levels of patients were higher than the control goup (216.58±8.24, 155.04±6.36 mg/dl respectively), but this difference was not statistically meaninful.
