Transient Receptor Potential Melastatin (TRPM) ion channels are the cation channels on the plasma membrane which are responsible for the entry of +2 calcium (Ca2 + ) and +2 magnesium (Mg2+). Studies on TRPM ion channels in various tumors have been conducted. However, its expression and effects in meningiomas are unknown. Magnetic Resonance Imaging is the most preferred imaging method in the diagnosis of meningioma. In our study, TRPM2 and TRPM7 levels were evaluated in meningiomas and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) signal differences in brain diffusion MRI in tumor, tumor circumference and symmetric brain tissue were evaluated. Two groups were formed with 30 patients who underwent surgery due to meningioma. There were 15 patients with type 1 (benign) meningioma in the first group and 15 patients with type 2 (malignant) meningioma in the second group. Tumor tissues taken were examined histopathologically. ADC measurements were made in diffusion MRIs of the same patients. The data obtained were analyzed in SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) program. No significant difference was observed between TRPM2 and TRPM7 ion channels type 1 meningioma patients. In type 2 meningioma patients, TRPM2 expression was statistically significantly higher than TRPM7. ADC values were significantly lower in patients on type 2 meningioma compared to type 1. Mass circumference values were higher in type 2 than in mass and symmetric brain tissue. As a result, expression of TRPM2 and TRPM7 ion channels in both type 1 and type 2 meningiomas was observed. However, TRPM2 expression was more evident in type 2 meningiomas. As the tumor stage increased, the decrease in mass ADC values, that is, decreased diffusion, was associated with hypercellularity. Increased ADC values were associated with increased peritumoral edema as the degree of tumor increased around the mass. Our study can provide a literature contribution to the treatment options for ion channels in meningiomas and ADC measurements in diagnosis of diffusion MRI and tumor's grade detection.
