Determination of product quantity at marble processing plants using linear programming technique

Abstract (EN)

Most of the companies in marble sector are planning and programming their production using their experiences, and, practical forecasts. Because of this reason it has been a problem to know which product is efficient and at which quantity it has to be produced. This study has been carried out to clarify this subject encountered in marble processing plants with taking into consideration of realistic and scientific methods. Rentas Marble a middle-size marble plant is chosen to carry out this study, and all production steps have been observed over a year. In this study, production diagrams are constituted, machines and equipments are determined, and necessary report documents are constituted in relation with capacity and production losts. In the theoretical part of this project, definition, scope and application method of linear programming are defined, and software Lingo 8.0 is used for solving the model. Data of production line had been used as input in this software and three different solutions were obtained. Marble as a material is a natural stone and because of this, software were run under three different conditions with regard to some suppositions and acceptances, namely for best production conditions, for worst production conditions and for average production conditions. As a result, the efficiency of products produced at the plant, which product has to be produced within a month to obtain the most revenue, and, the quantity of that product are clarified. By this way, marketing policies for companies are obtained.
