Abstract (EN)
Three different mesh sizes of multiflament gill nets (18 mm, 20 mm, and 22 mm) were used in Mersin Bay-İzmir for Bogue (Boops boops L., 1758) selectivity. For sampling, seven operations were carried out between June 2014 and August 2014. Holt (1963) method was used to calculate selectivity parameters and curves of the gillnets. The ratio of the Bogue in the total caught fish was 86% and the amounts of fish caught by the 20 and 22 mm nets were similar. Optimal selectivity lengths of multiflament gillnets estimated for bogue were 15.02, 16.69 and 18.36 cm for 18, 20, and 22 mm mesh size, respectively. And also, the common selectivity factor was determined as 8.34. Thus, based on length at first maturity it has been stated that the gillnets of 18, 20, and 22 mm mesh size do not cause over fishing of the bogue population in Mersin Bay.
