The effect of herbal extract on bladder cancer

Introduction: ABS is a herbal extract that cosists Alpinia officinarum, Glycyrrhiza glabra,Thymus vulgaris, Urtica dioica, and Vitis vinifera, that is used topically as an homeostatic agent. According to studies in both radical prostatectomy and partial nephrectomy surgeries ,also SAOS(osteosarcoma) and CACO-2(colon cancer)it has been provided that ABS has an obivous effect on bleeding control also positive result on apopototic and antineoplastic effect on cancer cells. The aim of the study is proving the antineoplastic activity of ABS has an effect on the bladder carcioma cell lines. Materials and Methods: Between October 2015 and January 2017 we performed transurethral resection to 24 patients whom over than 18 years old after they signed informed consent about the surgery and study. After TUR we took milimetric parts from tumoral lesion to regenerate. We used two different doses of ABS on regeranated tumors and used to show the differnceses between control group according to pathology results,cell death type,viability and cell death raetio.After the data had been obtained wilcoxon analysis determine whether the Ankaferd hemostat would have any significant inhibitory impact on cell viability and increase on cell death ratio. Results: We planned the study on 24 patients whom have tumoral lessions in their bladder. The mean of the patients age were between 34-83 with a mean of 66,2 ±11,7. Of patients %79,5 were male and %20,5 were female(male:19 and female:5). When we compared the differences between bladder tumor cell lines when we used ABS group with the control group,we showed that there was a significant decreases on cell viability and increaseas of cell death ratio. With the usage of ABS,most of the cell lines shows necrosis and some cell lines show also both necrosis and apoptosis. In the present study we also try to understand the effect of the ABS on different stages,grade and variant histology of bladder carcinoma. Conclusion: We believe that ABS may have an antineoplastic and cytotoxic effect on bladder carcinoma cells.
