Investigation of the effects of acorn seed oil extraction on engine performance and emissions

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the extraction of waste acorn kernel (pelite) oil was mixed with diesel fuel at 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% by volume. It was tested in a single-cylinder atmospheric diesel engine and its effects on engine performance and exhaust emissions were investigated. Engine tests started at 3500 rpm under full load conditions and loaded with a dynamometer at 500 rpm intervals and continued until the speed dropped to 1500 rpm. After this cycle, the test was terminated due to increased vibration and knocking. Test data were obtained for diesel oil in the first place under these conditions, then PLT05 (5% Pelit Oil Extraction + 95% Diesel Oil), PLT10 (10% Pelit Oil Extraction + 90% Diesel Oil), PLT15 (15% Pelit Oil Extraction + 85% Diesel Oil) and Measurements were repeated with PLT20 (20% Pelit Oil Extraction + 80% Diesel Oil) test fuels. In the measurements made, it was determined that the torque and power values increased as the mixture ratios increased in the comparison of the test fuels with diesel. On average, at all engine speeds, a decrease in brake specific fuel consumption values compared to diesel was detected. When the emission values of the test fuels are examined, it has been observed that the emission values generally tend to increase.
