A sociological research for the reasons for choosing these schools for students studying in vocational high schools (Ankara Altindağ example)

In the study, data on why Vocational High School students choose these schools are obtained. The results were tried to be reached in line with the data taken from 5 different schools in Ankara Altindag district. 355 Students participated in the study. The mixed model was used. Survey questions and open-ended questions that students can answer individually are addressed. The area where participants can give individual answers is left to better understand their thoughts. Surveys conducted in schools were analyzed in the SPPS and NVİVO program. Ki-square test was applied because of the relationships between categorical variables. As a result of the research, it was seen that the family factor is at the forefront in the choice of school. In line with the wishes of their families, the students stated that they received education in these schools. Students who want to continue higher education stated that they want to study in a department other than the field in which they are studying in high school. The lack of materials and the lack of departmental courses cause students and teachers to see their schools as inadequate. The excessive theoretical courses and the intensive training programs prevent students from practicing. As a solution, it is necessary to reduce the number of courses and to create areas that will improve hand skills by practicing. The students stated that they were working in a job outside of class hours. They stated that in the dual education system, the students who came to the school in the afternoon spent the whole day for the school, and there was no time left for them.
