The factors affecting the choice of profession: An questionnaire practice on the officers working in Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University

Choosing the profession has been accepted generally, as one of the significant milestones in the life of individuals who would like to form his future. The importance of individuals who would like to be happy while doing his profession has been known in the way of social benefit and contribution to the production. At this stage, as individuals can choose their profession regarding being happiness and efficient, and in some cases, they face to the professions which seem more profitable and guarantee. There are researches about choosing professions belonging in the private sector like doctorship, nursing, accountancy; though, it has seen that the reason for preferring the public sector has been researched less and, why the same profession would like to be carried out in the public sector has been desired to research. Determining and evaluating the dimensions/factors considered on choosing the public service and ensuring information to researchers and decision-makers have been endeavoured with this study, contributing literature even the less has been aimed. For this purpose, the sample has been formed by 301 civil servants working at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University; the questionnaire about choosing a profession has been carried out. The chi-squared test has been researched with the contingency table to the individual data acquired from the questionnaire, by the descriptive factor analysis dimensions considered in choosing the profession has been determined over the 32 questions belongs to the issues. The factor of "Safe environment in the state according to the distrust in the economic environment" is the most effective factor all in the 5 factor which is determined on choosing the civil servant and this dimension has been accepted as the most effective in the way of variants explained and the most significant factor from the point of the variants explained. Furthermore, the relationship between the dimensions has been studied by correlation analysis, the importance level of the dimension has been assessed by statistical test and interpreted upon to the degree of individual properties.
