Parents related problems that encountered by school managers in vocational high schools

Occupational high schools, in today?s conditions, are one of the most important places after universities to train the skilled human resources that required by our country. In order to attain this goal, families? support of vocational schools has a tremendous importance which has been neglected so long. To assure a healthy school-family communication and cooperation, it is imperative for school manager to understand correctly the problems that inhibits school-family relationship in order to solve the problems.The aim of this research is to determine the parents related problems that encountered by the school managers in vocational high schools.The research was conducted in 2008-2009 curriculum year with 328 school managers working for industrial school, vocational high school for girls and trade high school in European side of Istanbul City. A total of 328 questionnaires, which was developed by the researcher, handed out to the school managers and 300 problem free questionnaires were used in statistical analyses according to the aim of the research.Analyses of the collected data by the Manager Personal Information Form and Questionnaire were conducted with SPSS v.15.0.It is found out that the vocational school teachers encounters with many problems that related to parents. Managers have, especially, difficulty in communicating with parents and have their cooperation for some matters about students. The perception of the managers about the encountered problems related with to parents do meaningfully differentiate regarding gender, age, level of education, faculty of graduation, seniority terms and the vocational high school type they work for.Key Words: Vocational High Schools, School Managers, Family, School-Family Relations.
