Abstract (EN)

Burnout is characterized by symptoms such as physical weariness, helplessness, disappointment, hopelessness, development of a negative self-concept, development of negative behaviors towards work, life and individuals working in the workplace, which occur due to long-term working in organizations where individuals have high emotional demands. described as a condition. Today, we encounter very rapid developments and changes in the technological, scientific, economic and social fields. As a result of this, the duties that people have to fulfill increase, the relations with the environment are diversified and the necessity of effective use of time becomes obligatory. This period, which develops with the complexity of life for people, causes the depletion of emotional and physical resources by expending more energy than people receive. Emotional intelligence is the competencies that a person needs in order to be able to control and recognize himself, to postpone his desires, to provide his own motivation, to approach the people around him with understanding, to resist obstacles and to establish effective relationships. People with emotional intelligence are considered advantageous in every sense. According to Baltaş (2015) emotional intelligence directly affects both the private and business life of the individual. It can be said that emotional intelligence has a greater place in professions in social areas that require individuals to work together. From this point of view, the aim of this study is to determine the occupational burnout and emotional intelligence levels of health workers, to examine the relationship between various demographic and occupational characteristics, professional burnout and emotional intelligence, and finally, the relationship between emotional intelligence and occupational burnout in health workers. As a result of the analyzes made, it was examined whether personal characteristics such as gender, age, marital status, income status make a difference in terms of emotional intelligence and professional burnout, and it was seen that these personal factors were effective in total and sub-dimensions (p<0.05). In addition, the professional characteristics of the participants were examined in terms of title, professional service period, education level, satisfaction with the profession and salary, and it was seen that these factors were effective in total and sub-dimensions (p<0.05). Finally, the relationship between professional burnout and emotional intelligence was examined by Pearson correlation analysis and regression analysis. Accordingly, it was determined that there were significant relationships between occupational burnout and emotional intelligence in healthcare workers (p<0.05). In addition, while the independent variable was occupational burnout and the dependent variable was emotional intelligence, in the regression analysis, it was concluded that there was a negative relationship between the two variables. Health professionals working under intense stress should be able to read and recognize their own emotions, understand them, and define the effects of their emotions on their success and relationships in order to be successful in their work environment. After this step, they should develop their ability to feel the feelings of others and think from their point of view, and in this way, they should try to minimize the burnout experienced both for themselves and for other employees. Institutional managers have important duties at this point. Keywords: Burnout, Emotional Intelligence, Healthcare Professionals, Health Management
