Abstract (EN)

Aim: It was aimed to investigate the demographic data, clinical findings, treatment data and their effect on overall survival of cases diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer. Method: In this study, the files of 201 cases diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer and followed up at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Health Application and Research Center, Medical Oncology clinic between January 1, 2015 and January 1, 2021 were retrospectively examined. Clinical and demographic characteristics, treatment data and overall survival of the cases were evaluated.. Results: Of the 201 patients in our study, 175 (87%) were male and 26 (13%) were female. The mean age was 61.37 ± 8.96 years. 156 (70%) patients were smokers. The most common blood group was A Rh+ with 71 (45%) cases. When the occupations of the cases were examined, the most common occupation was coal mine work with 50 cases (31%). The most common complaint was shortness of breath in 68 (32%) cases, the most common accompanying disease was hypertension in 46 (26%) cases, and the most common metastasis site was bone in 111 (55%) cases. 46 (23%) of the cases were small cell lung cancer (SCLC), and 155 (77%) were non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). In the NSCLC group, the most common was adenocarcinoma with 94 (61%) cases. Median overall survival was 317 days for SCLC and 263 days for NSCLC. The most frequently received treatment was platinum-based treatments with 180 (90%) cases. Etoposide had a positive effect on survival in SCLC patients (p:0.032). There was no significant statistical difference in other treatments. It was observed that all SCLC patients died during the follow-up period, and only 10 (6.5%) patients in the NSCLC group were alive. Conclusion: In our study, it has been determined that the ECOG score and the site of metastasis have no impact on overall survival. In the NSCLC group, being of female gender has been found to increase survival, while in the SCLC group, younger age of patients and receiving etoposide treatment have been identified to extend the survival duration.
