Architectural Solution Proposals for Increasing Energy Efficiency of Existing Reinforced Concrete Residential Buildings

The damage which is caused by ever increasing energy consumption makes efficient consumption of produced energy and prevention of energy leaks as important matters. The governments which aim to protect humanity's future research ways to improve energy efficiency and ways to reduce consumption of energy. The main aim of this study aims is to define factors affecting energy consumption at existing buildings and to present architectural solution proposals to increase energy efficiency of existing residential buildings. The purpose of this study is to support actions to be taken towards reducing energy consumption per capita, reducing the comsumption of limited natural resources and preserving the ecological stability. Second chapter deals with energy, negative effects of energy consumption, energy consumption of existing residential buildings and energy efficiency. Third chapter deals with passive energy efficiency systems for buildings and renewable energy production systems. Fourth chapter deals with legislations for energy consumption of buildings in Turkey and worldwide. Fifth chapter deals with some of the energy efficiency systems selected from third chapter to be applied to existing buildings. New solution approaches are developed from mentioned energy efficiency systems in third chapter and difficulties of working on an existing buildings are discussed. Last chapter emphasizes the importance of reducing negative effects of energy consumption on nature. This chapter investigates the possibilities of energy efficiency systems being applied to existing residential buildings and indicates the importance of new legislations being created regarding the energy efficiency of existing residential buildings.
