Abstract (EN)

Our country is located in an active fault line geography. Many losses in human lives have occurred owing to the earthquakes in the past years. This situation indicates how important it is to design buildings and determine seismic performances of existing structures and strengthen them if necessary.Due to the researches in engineering site and improvement in computer science, seismic effect on structure is determined more realistically according to members and structural system in an earthquake.Buildings which are not designed properly indicate that it is necessary to investigate seismic performance of existing structures. Linear and non-linear evaluation procedures of existing structures are introduced in Turkish Seismic Code. This study consists of seven chapters. After introduction part is explained, structural system irregularities are introduced. Information about linear elastic and non-linear elastic evaluation methods are given and seismic performances of an existing frame system and existing building are stated according to linear and non-linear methods and these methods are compared by each other. Finally, parameters such as resultant base-shear, story seismic forces, member damage regions and damage limits which are used to determine seismic performance are compared. The results are shown in figures and tables and suggestions are proposed.
