Following the earthquakes in recent years, the reinforced concrete buildings in Turkey were designed insufficiently for the effects of earthquake and these buildings have been built by weak labour and low strength materials in uncontrolled manner. For these reasons, the need of retrofit reached to a maximum level.In this study, it is aimed to establish the basis of a system with which one can easily estimate the cost of retrofit of a reinforced concrete building. In order to achieve this goal, the previous related studies have been searched. Then, the factors that affect negatively the earthquake performance of existing reinforced concrete buildings, namely the reasons that create the need of strengthening the buildings, the methods of determining the earthquake performance of existing reinforced concrete buildings, the parameters affecting the cost of strengthening the reinforced concrete buildings and their relative shares in the cost are studied by multi variate linear regression analysis with the help of a statistical package program, SPSS 15.In this study it is observed that he parameters of seismic zone, the age of the building, (effective ground acceleration coefficient), and strength of existing concrete, footing type and total number of storey may be used in order to estimate the unit cost of retrofit.
