The thoughts of Mawdudi on tasawwuf and the purification of the soul

This study deals with the views of Mevdudi, who wrote works in many branches of Islamic sciences and was a man of thought and action, on sufism and self-purification. In the study, Mevdudi's books and works were examined and his views on sufism and its concepts are brought together. The research brings to light the religious structure of the environment in which Mevdudi lived, the atmosphere he grew up in, the basic concepts of his thought, his views on Sufism and the self-purification. In addition, this research also explains the religious, scientific, political and cultural influence on which Mevdudi's views are based. This study includes three main parts. First part; ın addition to examining different aspects of Mevdudi's life, it also deals with his combative identity and his scientific activities, his books, the congregation he founded and the duties he fulfilled. It also touches upon the criticisms of the author's ideas, the social interpretation of koran school and approaches to Sufism and the reasons for Muslims' falling behind. The second part of the research; It is related to some issues concerning the explanation of concepts such as the sheikh-disciple relationship, miracle-keramat, connection, "tewessul" and curatorship. The third part of the research is about the concepts of sufism and examines various topics and titles related to morality, disciplining the soul, knowledge and ingenuity. As a result, it has been concluded that Mevdudi approached Sufism as with the shape after the first period of asceticism critically in the center of the claim that it spoiled the purity of Islam. It has been understood that Mevdudi criticizes Sufism on the grounds that practices such as self-education, suffering, and seclusion applied by Sufis prevent social change.
