Examination of Mevlâna İdris Zengin's chilren's books in terms of vocabulary

Verbal and written communication in society is realised through the words in the language people use. In order for individuals to express themselves correctly and effectively, they need to havea sufficient level of vocabulary. Works written and published in the field of children's literatüre are important materials used to teach and teach children the vocabulary elements of language. The aim of this research is to determine the contribution of Mevlâna İdris Zengin's works to the linguistic development of children in the context of Turkish language instruction through the elements of vocabulary. The research is qualitative in nature. The population of the research consists of sixty-five works. The sample includes seven works targeting children, namely "Hayâl Dükkânı" (Dream Shop), "Korku Dükkânı" (Fear Shop), "Sinir Dükkânı" (Anger Shop), "İyilik Dükkânı" (Kindness Shop), "Sufi ile Pufi" (Sufi and Pufi), "Kirpiler Şapka Giymez" (Hedgehogs Don't Wear Hats) and "Ütüsüz Ayakkabılar" (Unironed Shoes). In the research, Mevlâna İdris Zengin's selected works were examined through the scanning method. In the stage of determining vocabulary elements in the books, reduplications, idioms, proverbs, fixed (relational) words, terms, translated words, foreign words, idiomatic expressions, filler words, slang and coarse words were considered. The findings were analyzed using content analysis technique. Based on the analysis, it was determined that the most frequently identified vocabulary element in the books is foreign words. Following foreign words, terms are the most common vocabulary element in the books. Proverbs, on the other hand, are the least encountered vocabulary element in the books. The Turkish vocabulary elements identified in the study are presented in tables. At the end of the study,recommendations regarding the contribution of Mevlâna İdris Zengin's books to terms of vocabulary are provided.
