Abstract (EN)

Postoperative chemoradiation in gastric cancer improves locoregional control and survival. Kidney is one of the organs that treatment related side-effects are seen. In this study we aimed to evaluate renal parenchymal damage due to radiotherapy in gastric cancer patients with creatinine clearance test and renal scintigraphy. Twenty-eight gastric cancer patients were enrolled to the study who applied to Bülent Ecevit University Faculty of Medicine Department of Radiation Oncology. Before radiotherapy, creatinine clearance test and, to get glomerular filtration rate values, renal scintigraphy were done. These examinations were repeated 6 months and 1 year after radiotherapy. The values before and after radiotherapy were evaluated considering the time and renal dose (V20). Creatinine clearance values lowered significantly after radiotherapy (p=0.035). While this reduction was not significant between preRT and 6 months after RT period (p=0.524), it was significant between preRT and 1 year after RT period (p=0.013). Right and left renal glomerular filtration rate values did not significantly change over time p=0.069 and p=0.464, respectively). Change in % of creatinine clearance and total renal V20 value were not correlated both in preRT ? 6 months after RT and preRT ? 1 year after RT periods (p=0.176 and p=0.901, respectively). At the same periods also there was not a significant relation between total renal dose and change in % of creatinine clearance (p=0.118, p=0.954, respectively). When V20 of one kidney and change in % of glomerular filtration rate were evaluated at the same periods, there was no significant change for both right kidney (p=0.450, p=0.385, respectively), and left kidney (p=0.518, p=0.954, respectively). We tried to show the effects of radiotherapy on kidneys in gastric cancer patients with creatinine clearance test and renal scintigraphy in our study. Key Words: Gastric cancer, radiotherapy, creatinine clearance test, renal scintigraphy
