Migration to europe from turkey: The international security dimension of the asylum problems of Syrian refugees

This study explores the international security dimensions of migration from Turkey to Europe, analyzing its challenges and implications for Turkey and the European Union (EU). Turkey's strategic geographic location has established it as a crucial transit and destination country for migrants, particularly from Syria, Afghanistan, and Sub-Saharan Africa. The research examines the dynamics of irregular migration routes, the role of human smuggling networks, and the socio-political drivers of migration. It also addresses the economic and social burdens placed on Turkey, the rise of far-right movements in Europe, and the security concerns associated with migration, including its potential links to terrorism. A key focus of this study is the 2016 EU-Turkey Refugee Agreement, which highlights Turkey's pivotal role in safeguarding European security but also exposes the limitations of existing migration governance frameworks. The findings emphasize the interconnectedness of domestic security in Turkey and Europe, underscoring the necessity for collaborative and sustainable solutions. While Turkey functions as a critical buffer zone for Europe, it bears significant financial and social costs, necessitating greater burden-sharing and international support to address the long-term challenges of migration governance effectively.
