Abstract (EN)

Migraine is a primary episodic headache disorder, coupled with variouscombinations of neurologic, gastrointestinal and autonomous changes ofunknown etiopathology and without precise management modalities. The aim ofthe study is the assessment of serum nitric oxide (NO) and adrenomedullin(ADM) levels of migraine patients in attack, attack-free perıod and control groupin order to reveal their role in physiopathology of the disease.26 migraine patients who have been admitted to our clinic (11 with aura, 15without aura) and 26 healthy subjects were included in the study. Haemograms,erytocyte sedimentation rates, C-reactive protein (CRP) levels and routinebiochemical tests were examined in each patients. 10 ml of venous bloodsamples were obtained from the patients twice during attack and attack freeperiods and once from the healthy subjects. Their plasma have been separatedand stored in -20° Then serum NO and AM levels were measured.C.Plasma NO levels in migraie patients during attack, attack-free period andcontrol subjects were (36,5), (27,8) and (25,19) micromole/lt, subsequently. NOlevels were found to be significantly higher in attack group when compared withthe attack-free period and controls (p=0,001). There was no significantdifference between the attack-free period and controls (p=0,534).Plasma AM levels in migraie patients during attack, attack-free period andcontrol subjects were; (19), (25,23) ve (33) picomole/lt, subsequently. AM levelswere found to be significantly lower in attack group when compared with theattack-free period and controls (p=0,001). Migraine attack-free period serumlevels were also significantly lower than controls (p=0,001).There was no significant difference between the subgroup analysis ofmigraine attack and attack free NO and AM levels with or without aura.These results may suggest different mechanisms of NO and AM roles in inmigraine pathogenesis which may be applied to treatment protocols in thefuture.Key Words: Migraine, Nitric okside, Adrenomedullin
