Abstract (EN)
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effects of different frequencies of micro-osteoperforation (MOP) application on orthodontic tooth movement, root resorption, pain sensitivity, and periodontal health during canine distalization. Method: Thirty three patients including in this split-mouth study were divided into three groups (4, 8 and 12 weeks) based on the frequency of MOP application. The side without MOP was considered as the control. Canine distalization was measured using digital models and panoramic radiographs were taken to assess root resorption. The pain level was evaluated by VAS on the day of the procedure, day 1st, 7th, 14th and 28th every 4 weeks. Plaque index, gingival index and pocket depth were measured to evaluate periodontal health. Mann Whitney U, Kruskall Wallis, and Chi-square tests were used for statistical analysis. Results: There were no statistically significant differences in the amount of distalization and root resorption between MOP groups compared to the control side. MOP significantly increased pain level on the day of the procedure, except for the last month. One day after the second application, every 8 weeks MOP group experienced a significant increase in pain. There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of periodontal measurements. Conclusion: There was no difference in the amount of canine distalization, root resorption and periodontal health between MOP application frequencies. Although MOP caused initially mild pain, it rapidly decreased and completely disappeared at the end of the first day. Key words: Canine distalization, frequency, micro-osteoperforation
