Effect of microalgae (Chlorella vulgaris Beijerinck) extracts on salt tolerance in guar (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub.) seedlings

In this study, using of microalge was investigated on effects of salt tolerance at Guar (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub.), Seeds were planted in plastic pots (12 lt) with a mixture of peat:perlite at a ratio of 2:1 and 5 plants in each pots. Plants were irrigated with standard nutrition solution till they were reached up to three true leaf stages. Applications, which were; control, salt (100 mM NaCl), salt+microalgae (100 mM NaCl+2x107 alg mL-1 Chlorella vulgaris Beijerinck) were arranged three replications. At the end of the applications, plants were evaluated according to morphological and physiological parameters. Generally, plant growth application improved K+ (potassium) and Ca++ (calcium) accumulation by 30-36%, however Na+ (sodium) and Cl- (clor) accumulations were limited 37-41% rations parameters were decreased depend on salt stress. However, membrane injury index was increased the same condition. With microalgae application, growth parameters shown increase by 5-66% on the other hands MIDX (Membran Injure Index) value decreased by 44% compared to without microalgae salinity treatments. In terms of ion concentrations; microalgae application improved K+ and Ca++ accumulation by 30-36%, however Na+ and Cl- accumulations were limited 37-41% rations vs. without microalgae salinity treatments. The results of the study, using of microalgae was helped to increase of guar to tolerate the adverse effects of salinity.
