Abstract (EN)
The objective of this study is to observe cultural characteristics of Chlorella vulgaris and to identify availability of microalgae biodiesel in diesel engines as alternative fuel. Microalgae biodiesel was blended with diesel fuel with the volumetric ratio of 5%, 10%, 20%, and 50%. Fuel properties of blends were identified and the performance characteristics and exhaust emissions of the engine fuelled with blends were analyzed. The fuel properties determination experiment showed that except its low Cetane number, microalgae biodiesel satisfies European Biodiesel Standards (EN 14214). According to experimental data obtained from engine test rig it was found that, although microalgae biodiesel caused a slight reduction in torque and brake power values, the emission values of the engine using microalgae biodiesel were improved.Key Words: Microalgae, Biodiesel, Fuel Properties, Engine Performance, ExhaustEmissions.
