The effect of microbial fertilizer usage on growth and development in eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) and cabbage (Brassica oleraceae var. capitata) seedlings

Abstract (EN)

The master thesis carried out to determine the effects of a microbial fertilizer on emergence rate, emergence time, seedling height, seedling thickness, epicotile height, hypocotyl height, chlorophyll content and plant nutrient contents in eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) and cabbage (Brassica oleraceae var. capitata). In the research, Partner F1 eggplant and Fieldglory F1 cabbage varieties were used as plant materials and seedlings were grown in a mixture of 70% peat + 30% perlite. The research was conducted as 4 repetitions and 6 applications according to the trial design of random parcels and there were 40 plants in each repetition. This study were included total 6 applications such as CG (conventional seedling cultivation), M-1 (irrigation with microbial fertilizer 1 time after sowing), M-2 (irrigation with microbial fertilizer 2 time after sowing), M-3 (irrigation with microbial fertilizer 3 time after sowing), MB (soaking the seeds in microbial fertilizer water), SB (soaking the seeds in water for 24 hours). Emergence rate (%), average emergence time (day), emergence index, emergence speed (day), seedling thickness (mm), seedling height (cm), hypocotyl height (cm), epicotile height (cm), true leaf number (number/plant), chlorophyll contents, fresh and dry weight (g/plant) in seedlings, macro (%) and micro element contents (ppm) criteria were examined in the study. According to the results of the research, it was observed that soaking eggplant and cabbage seeds in microbial fertilizer water prevented germination. The effects of microbial fertilizer applications in the eggplant on emergence rate, average emergence time and germination index were lower than the control group, but shortened the emergence speed positively. While the highest seedling, hypocotyl and epicotile heights were found in M-1 for eggplant, the highest number of true leaves in M-3, the highest wet weight in M-1 and the highest dry weight in SB were determined. In terms of N and P the highest values in CG, while the highest K content in M-3, the highest Ca and Mg contents in M-1 were determined. In respect of micro elements the highest Mn value in M-2, the highest Zn value in M-1, the highest Cu value in M-3 were found. The highest percentage of emergence in terms of the criteria examined in cabbage was in M-2. Also average emergence time, emergence index and emergence speed were found in M-1. While the highest seedling thickness in M-1, seedling, hypocotyl and epicotile heights in SB were observed, chlorophyll content in M-3, wet and dry weights in M-1 were measured. The highest N, P, K values were obtained from M-2 in terms of macro elements while Fe content in M-1, Mn content in SB, Zn content in M-3 and Cu content in M-1 were analysed as the highest.
