Land capability classification of Milas district (Muğla)

The main aim in this essay the subject of Milas district which located in the Aegean region of Turkey's Aegean coast. Field of study has a surface area of 2.167 km2. The largest settlement in the field of study is the Milas district of Muğla province. In this research, a new methodology using Turkey's Milas distric Atalay method formed in accordance with the ecological conditions was to determine the ability of land's properties. In addition, differences and changes in the data obtained were revealed. The lands are divided into capability classes for their suitability for use and evaluation activities. The main purpose of classification is using the capability of land, in its most efficient way according to the characteristic of the natural environment and opening the way of sustainable development. Researches on the land capability classification in Turkey, was made within the frame of the criteria used in USA. Therefore it is not completely suitable with Turkey's ecological conditions because of a new approach was needed. The study was conducted by following some specific steps. First of all, a detailed infrastructure has been established on the field and the subject. Material was procured. 1 / 25.000 scaled topography maps were used in field of study. Mapping of the climate, geomorphology (slope exposure), main material, soil, vegetation/flora and socio-economic characteristics of the area are required. All of these data were evaluated with manual registration method using Geographic Information Systems software and the land use capability of classification has been produced according to the Atalay method. The existence of the land belonging to each class was determined in the field of study. It is compared with the land classification that we use now and finalized in articals. Suggestions were made in order to avoid wrong land use.
