Examination of cardiovascular risk factor knowledge level of physical education and sports teachers working in schools of national education

The aim of this research is to examine the cardiovascular risk factor knowledge level of Physical Education and Sports teachers. The general survey model, which is one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the research. The study group of the research consisted of teachers working in schools affiliated to Muş Provincial Directorate of National Education in the 2020-2021 academic year. The data used in the study were collected using the personal information form and the Risk Factors in Cardiovascular Disease Knowledge Level (CARRIF-KL) scale. SPSS 22.0 package program was used in the analysis of the data. Descriptive statistical methods (percentage/frequency), One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and t-Test were used in the analyses. The significance level of the findings obtained from the analyzes was accepted as p<0.05. In addition, internal consistency coefficients (Cronbac'h Alpha) were calculated to test the reliability of the scales. According to the KARRIF-BD sub-dimensions, no significant difference was found according to the heart disease status of any student at school, smoking, age, undergraduate diploma grade and the type of school. However, it was determined that the variables of gender, branch, sports history and physical activity differed significantly in some sub-dimensions. As a result, it can be said that the knowledge level of cardiovascular risk factors in the population of teachers participating in the study is low.
