Abstract (EN)

This study is an inquiry into the relationship between architectural space and its representation on theater stage, with the claim that ?space? being the fundamental element both in architecture and in stage, the representation on stage affects architecture. The study is based on the assumption that architecture creates spaces for everday-life, while theater stage produces the representations of architectural space; which leads architecture and stage, with using different methods, to come together on the basis of creating ?space?. Since the stage being ephemeral and representational, it can be considered as an experimental place for architecture. Architectural space and its representation have passed through changes throughout history. Following the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century and the separation of disciplines, stage design has gained a disciplinery level. In the 20th century, the century of the world wars, the changes in economical, political and social situations, architecture and stage design have started to search for new ideas. Epic Theatre, emerged at the beginning of the 20th century, has affected the concept of stage design. Through these acknowledgements, depending on the concepts of ?space? and its ?representation?, this study examines the changes in stage design, the breaking point created by Epic Theater in the 20th century and the reflections of these changes in architectural space. Key Words : Architecture, theater, stage, space, representation, Epic Theater
