Özet (EN)

Architecture, one of the most important disciplines in the construction and representation of a civilization, is a historical and cultural fact that precesses continuously in parallel interaction with life. Architecture is also one of the most crucial domains that makes human beings' ability to give meaning to and represent their existence visible and shared. The intellectual background of this creative activity, pays attention to criticism which motivates and contributes to this continuously evolving discipline. The criticism of the present, the construction of 'the new' and the imagination of 'the ideal' are the results of its critical stance. Architecture has been the representational means of general and inclusive ideal social imaginary that is asserted through the criticism of current historical social life fiction. It should be pointed that utopias, the ideal forms of social life proposals on urban scale, have always been fundamental intellectual and creative activities of architecture. Today utopias are required to cherish the hope for the future in the face of the global environmental and social destructive threats. It has been observed that many utopian fictions have been produced on urban scale since the Renaissance. The conceptional background of the relationship between utopias and criticism of everyday life of the era in which these utopias were created, architectural domain of the period, representation tools has been revealed in this study. It is argued that despite being an autonomous field, architecture has benefited from many other disciplines, and accordingly, its future will be shaped by the continuation of its relationship with criticism and society.
