Adaptation of mini-addenbrooke's cognitive examination (M-ACE) cognitive screening test to Turkish population

Objective: The Mini-Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination (M-ACE) is a brief cognitive screening test that evaluates four main cognitive domains (orientation, memory, language and visuospatial function) with a maximum score of 30 points and administration time of five minutes. Our aim is to evaluate the cognitive functions of elderly individuals without cognitive complaints, mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and mild dementia (AD) using M-ACE and to adapt M-ACE to the Turkish population. Materials and Methods: Individuals aged ≥60 years, high school or higher education level, native Turkish speakers, no hearing and vision loss that hinders communication, and those with or without cognitive complaints who applied to the neurology outpatient clinic were included in the study between November 2020-2021 after obtaining their consent. M-ACE which are available in Turkish and MMDT were administered to the participants. Results: M-ACE was able to distinguish between MCI and mild AD. The cut-off point for HKB was 24/30; sensitivity was 90%, specificity was 73%, AUC: 0.875, diagnostic accuray was 88%. 21/302du for AH; sensitivity was 91%, specificity was 85% AUC:0.969, and diagnostic accuracy was 94%. Discussion: M-ACE is superior to MMSE in distinguishing MCI. M-ACE orientation, verbal fluency and visuospatial ability score can distinguish mild AD and MCI from each other. M-ACE memory and register memory areas are affected in MCI and AD compared to the group without cognitive complaints. Conclusion: In this study, the validity and reliability of the M-ACE test was evaluated for the first time in Turkey. A test that can distinguish mild cognitive impairment and dementia has been added to the literature for clinical and research purposes.
